Our Earthquake memorial seat was unveiled on 22 February. The seat is absolutely stunning.  It was built of bricks from earthquake rubble. The actual proposal to have a visible memorial using bricks was Ms Dwan’s. The chair idea was one of several proposed by artist Peter Majendie last year. We had funds donated by schools around the country last year and to fund this project we used funds from Runanga School, near Greymouth. Kerry Tunstall (artist) and Andrew Murdoch (stonemason) were contracted by us to complete the work and they did it in just over a week.

The seat is now a wonderful addition to our grounds, allowing users to enjoy a view of the the rose garden and our Shirley Road frontage. Thank you to all those involved and to the children of Room 9, Miss Dwan and Mr Loughnan for the bricks around the rose garden.

Tino pai rawa atu tou koutou mahi.  He whakamaharatanga pai tenei

Well done everyone.  This is a wonderful memorial.
