Whanau Group

For decades SIS has had groups of hardworking PTA parents who have worked very hard behind the scenes raising much needed funds and complementing school activities and resources. This has been fantastic.
Whanau literally means “family”, but refers in a broader way to a sense of belonging or of unity.  Our Whanau has two main purposes:

1) Fostering great home-school relationships  – As children get older, parents are less available during school hours.  The Whanau Group actively look for ways to ensure that families still have opportunities to be connected to school in a variety of ways, so that parents and caregivers can support the schools in ways which suit them.

2) Being part of the Shirley Community – "Know Local , Go Local".  We have been a central part of the Shirley Community since for over 85 years.  Prior to that we were part of Shirley School.  We are always looking for ways to be involved in the community - whether it be learning opportunities - like having community people speaking or presenting in classes - or life-learning opportunities - such as singing at local aged care homes, or helping with murals at the local park.
If you're interested in being part of this group, email the principal (principal@sis.school.nz)  or Becs in the school office (office@sis.school.nz).

What is the most important thing in the world? It is people, it is people, it is people
